Palaeography

Palaeography studies the forms of written signs. Shape varies with material, tool, place, period and writer. A standardized font makes texts searchable, but it can erase distinctions that matter for dating and reading a damaged witness.

Worked question

A printed edition shows the same Unicode character twice, but one original sign is damaged. What should your notes retain?
